The BASF research laboratory at the ISIS in Strasbourg is part of the polymer research of BASF in Ludwigshafen. A team of around 10 post-doctoral researchers faces current challenges inside BASF, ranging from basic research to direct industrial applications. ISIS gives the opportunity to combine the best of a.) an academic environment, which guarantees creative freedom and rapid exchange of ideas between researchers with different backgrounds and b.) the financial and infrastructural resources of the worlds largest chemical company. Thus BASF has created a novel approach to merge academic and industrial research. The activities of the laboratory are focused on supramolecular chemistry, nano-structured materials, coatings, rheology control and optoelectronic devices but are also adapted to the current challenges in the worldwide chemical industry.
